Mg2CuGa crystallizes in the orthorhombic Immm space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of two Mg2CuGa ribbons oriented in the (1, 0, 0) direction. Mg is bonded in a linear geometry to one Cu and one Ga atom. The Mg–Cu bond length is 2.51 Å. The Mg–Ga bond length is 2.73 Å. Cu is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Mg atoms. Ga is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Mg atoms.
