La2IrNi crystallizes in the orthorhombic Immm space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of two La2IrNi ribbons oriented in the (1, 0, 0) direction. La is bonded in a linear geometry to one Ir and one Ni atom. The La–Ir bond length is 2.42 Å. The La–Ni bond length is 2.32 Å. Ir is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent La atoms. Ni is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent La atoms.
