Solid mixed-ligand complexes (MLC) formed by the action of pivalic acid on Nd, Eu, Gd, Dy, and Tb dipivaloylmethanates (MDpm{sub 3}) in hexane are isolated. It is established from IR-spectroscopic analysis that the derivatives of neodymium, europium, and gadolinium are of composition MDpm{sub 2}Piv{center_dot}xHdpm (0 < x < 0.5), and, in the case of Dy and Tb, a mixture of the complexes of composition MDpm{sub 3}{center_dot}Hpiv and MDpm{sub 3}{center_dot}Hpiv and MDpm{sub 2}Piv{center_dot}xHDpm forms. An X-ray diffraction analysis is performed for monocrystalline MLC of composition [GdDpm{sub 2}Piv{center_dot}H{sub 2}O]{sub 2} obtained in recrystallization on the initial gadolinium MLC. It is established that recrystallization of the neodymium MLC results in hydrolysis and carbonization of this compound to give an MLC of composition [Nd{sub 8}Dpm{sub 8}Piv{sub 6}(OH){sub 6}(CO{sub 3}){sub 2}(H{sub 2}O){sub 2}{center_dot}]4H{sub 2}O, for which X-ray diffraction analysis is also carried out.
