Synthesis and physicochemical properties of LnBiOS{sub 2}

Investigation of compounds existing in Bi{sub 2}S{sub 3}-Ln{sub 2}O{sub 2}S systems is of interest from the viewpoint of electronic applications. These systems, however, have been studied very little; virtually no data have been reported on the relevant phase diagrams and the solubility of Ln{sub 2}O{sub 2}S in Bi{sub 2}S{sub 3}. In this work, the authors report the preparation and physicochemical properties of the compounds LnBiOS{sub 2} (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Yb).
