In previous studies of phase relationships in As{sub 2}S{sub 3}-Ln{sub 2}O{sub 2}S and Sb{sub 2}S{sub 3}-Ln{sub 2}O{sub 2}S systems, the authors revealed the formation of the incongruently melting compounds LnMOS{sub 2}, Ln{sub 4}M{sub 2}O{sub 4}S{sub 5}, and LnM{sub 3}OS{sub 5}, where Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm and M = As, Sb. Hydrothermal synthesis of the oxysulfide LaSbO{sub 2}S{sub 2} was reported. CeBiOS{sub 2} was prepared and was found to crystallize in the tetragonal system. In this communication, the authors report on their studies of phase equilibria in the systems Bi{sub 2}S{sub 3}-La{sub 2}O{sub 2}S, Bi{sub 2}S{sub 3}-Ce{sub 2}O{sub 2}S, and Bi{sub 2}S{sub 3}-Pr{sub 2}O{sub 2}S.
