Synthesis and study of binary compounds of actinides and lathanides. XX. intermetallic compounds of curium and nickel

A study has been made of microspecimens of {sup 244}Cm-Ni alloy obtained by high-temperature condensation of curium metal vapor onto a nickel substrate. Two intermetallic compounds have been identified in these specimens-Ni{sub 15}Cm{sub 2} with the hexagonal lattice of the Ni{sub 17}Th{sub 2} type and Ni{sub 5}Cm with the hexagonal lattice of the Cu{sub 5}Ca type. The crystal lattices of both intermetallic compounds become X-ray amorphous at room temperature owing to the {alpha}-decay of {sup 244}Cm.
