A new form of fluxional process in the sterically hindered oxo cluster [Ru{sub 3}({mu}{sub 3}-CO)(CO){sub 3}({mu}-Ph{sub 2}PCH{sub 2}PPh{sub 2})3]

Oxidation of [Ru{sub 3}(CO){sub 6}({mu}-dppm){sub 3}], dppm = Ph{sub 2}PCH{sub 2}PPh{sub 2}, by silver (I) and O{sub 2} or Me{sub 3}NO gives the oxo cluster complex [Ru{sub 3}({mu}{sub 3}-O)({mu}{sub 3}-CO)(CO){sub 3}({mu}-dppm){sub 3}]{sup +}. The structure of 3 has been determined [monoclinic, P2{sub 1}/n, a = 19.771(2) {Angstrom}, c=13.007(2) {Angstrom},c=13.007(2) {Angstrom}, {beta}=94.01(9){degrees}, V=7622(1){Angstrom}{sup 3}, Z=4,R{sub F}=0.063]. These clusters are sterically congested and exhibit an interesting new form of fluxionality in clusters based on the M{sub 3}({mu}-dppm){sub 3} unit.
