High Efficiency Latent Heat Based Thermal Energy Storage System Compatible with Supercritical CO2 Power Cycle
- Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Argonne, IL (United States)
As part of the SunShot Initiative’s 2013 Laboratory Proposal Development program, Argonne National Laboratory (Argonne) developed and demonstrated a latent-heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) system using MgCl2 (Tm.p. ~ 714°C) phase change material (PCM) and graphite foam at the laboratory prototype-scale level. The current project focused on issues related to the fabrication and thermal performance feasibility of the LHTES module compatible with the supercritical CO2 (s-CO2) power cycle for concentrated solar power (CSP) applications
