Copolyamic acids with different proportions of diamine content were prepared by polymerizing different molar ratios of diamines, p-phenylene diamine (PPD)/4,4`-diaminodiphennyl sulfide (ADS), with pyromellitic dianydride (PMDA) and 3,3`,4,4`-biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA) in 1-methyl-2-pyrroilidone (NMP) at room temperature. The diamine component can be arranged in random or regular sequence through various reaction processes. Thermal cyclodehydration of polyamic acids results in the corresponding polyimides. The polymers were characterized by viscosity and thermal stability.
