The fluorinated alcohol, 4-fluoro(2-hydroxyhexafluoroisopropyl)benzene (HFIPFB) has proven to be an highly useful starting material for the preparation of various fluorinated acrylic polymers. Hexafluoroisopropoxy-containing acrylic monomers were prepared from the acid derivative of HFIPFB and hydroxyalkyl methacrylate. These monomers were characterized by IR, NMR and elemental analysis. The homo- and copolymerizations of these monomers and nonfluorinated analogues were effected by radical polymerization to yield fluoro-acrylic polymers which were soluble in common organic solvents such as CHCl{sub 3} and THF. The inherent viscosity of these polymers ranged up to 1.5 dL/g.
