A tutorial review of organosilicon polymers covering (1) polymers in which the Si atoms are in the polymer chain (polysiloxanes, polysilazanes, polysilanes and polycarbosilanes in which the bridging organic groups may be alkylene, alkenylene, alkynylene or arylene units), and (2) polymers in which the Si atoms are found in side groups of the polymer chain (e.g., poly(vinylsilane), [CH{sub 2}CH(SiH{sub 3})]n).
