Electron paramagnetic resonance was used to characterize the defect centers in zinc germanium phosphide. EPR studies of single crystal ZnGeP{sub 2} detailing the relationship between sample temperature, orientation of the single crystal in the magnetic field, and crystal growing and processing history of the crystal will be discussed. In addition, the optical properties of ZnGeP{sub 2}, and optical parametric oscillator, were correlated with the EPR spectra at temperatures from 77K to room temperature.
