Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) has been used to prepare a series of (Sr{sub 1{minus}x}M{sub x}){sub 1{minus}{delta}}CuO{sub 2} thin film materials on <100>SrTiO{sub 3} and <100>MgO at low temperature. X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, and ion channeling studies have shown that all of the (Sr{sub 1{minus}x}M{sub x}){sub 1{minus}{delta}} CuO{sub 2} materials (x=0.1,{delta}=0) or consist of multiple phases (x=0, {delta}=0.1; x>0, {delta}=O, 0.1). The chemical stoichiometry of the films was determined by Rutherford backscattering. The dependence of the product structure on growth temperature and substrate lattice constant were also investigated.
