The species Cu{sup I}{sub 2}Zr{sub 2}(O{sup i}Pr){sub 10} (1) is formed from the 2:1 reaction of Cu{sup I}(C{sub 6},H{sub 2}Me{sub 3}) and Zr{sub 2}(O{sup I}Pr){sub 2} in pentane. The hydrocarbon soluble compound consists of a bent [Cu{sub 2}({mu}{sub 2}O{sup i}Pr)]{sup +} fragment bound to a [Zr{sub 2}(O{sup i}Pr){sub 9}]{sup {minus}} faced-shared bioctahedron via two {mu}{sub 2}-alkoxides. This structure is maintained both in the solid state and solution. 1 can be readily converted to the previously reported square-planar oxo species Cu{sup II}Zr{sub 4}O{sub 3}(O{sup i}Pr){sub 18} (2) via oxygen and water. Electrochemical characteristics, thermogravimetric analysis, and full hydrolysis of 1 and 2 will be described.
