Thermal decomposition of thioacetamide in aqueous Zn{sup 2+} solution produces a precipitate of spherical, nano-porous ZnS particles of submicron size. These powders were used as a matrix material for the preparation of ZnS/GaP nano-composite powders by impregnating them with organometallic GaP precursors 1 and 2, followed by pyrolysis. The results of the characterization of the pyrolysates with respect to composition, phase and morphology will be presented.
