As the thallium concentration is increased, additional bands appear and rapidly increase in the luminescence spectra of ammonium halide crystals. Three, two, and one type of complex centers are separated in ammonium chloride, ammonium bromide, and ammonium iodide crystals, respectively. The excitation and luminescence spectra are recorded for each of these luminescent centers. The number of types of luminescent centers formed with increasing the concentration of thallium decreases in the Cl-Br-I sequence in ammonium halide crystals studied, which results from the increased effect of the halide ions surrounding an impurity. 1 refs., 3 figs.
