Addition of dicyclohexyl phthalate solid plasticizer to rigid polyvinyl chloride increased melt flow index dramatically, but tended to lower modulus, impact strength, and heat deflection temperature somewhat. Addition of methacrylate/butadiene/styrene impact modifier increased impact strength dramatically, but lowered melt flow index seriously. Combined use of both solid plasticizer and impact modifier permitted the compounder to balance these two effects and combine moderate melt flow with moderate impact strength.
