An electronic control system for laser desorption mass spectrometry of a levitated single microparticle in a quadrupole trap is described. This circuit provides appropriate low-frequency ac and dc voltages for microparticle levitation and switches them to ground prior to laser desorption, enabling the trap to store and mass analyze the laser-desorbed ions. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
