Revitalizing science in rural North Carolina high schools with technology
- North Carolina State Univ., Raleigh, NC (United States)
North Carolina State University oversees two precollege science outreach programs in rural North Carolina: Team Science in chemistry and physics, and the Howard Hughes Science Program in biology, chemistry, and physics. Both programs are collaborative efforts of faculty from several departments in the university. The programs stress incorporating technology in the classroom, supply equipment loans to participants, provide a summer training workshop for teachers, and furnish on-site support from university faculty and staff. The programs are active in fifteen counties in eastern North Carolina and include twenty-eight teacher participants. The programs are primarily funded by grants from the NSF, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Dreyfus Foundation.
