Electromagnetic and Beam-Dynamics Modeling of the New LANL RFQ with CST Studio

The CST Studio Suite is used to evaluate the design and performance of the new 4-rod LANL proton RFQ. Starting with a detailed engineering CAD model, an electromagnetic analysis of the RFQ is performed with the CST MicroWave Studio (MWS). The MWS-calculated RF fields are used for PIC modeling of beam dynamics in the RFQ with CST Particle Studio (PS) and for thermal-stress analysis with ANSYS. This technical note describes our RFQ modeling and summarizes its results.
