Improvement of protection systems periodic testing

During normal operation, protection systems are on standby, therefore any failure of system components may go undertected. For this reason international rules require periodic tests. In the case of the logic part of the protection system, the initial manual test equipment has been replaced successfully on the 34 units of the French 900 MW series by an automatic tester. In the case of the analog instrumentation part, FRAMATOME has carried out a study for Electricite de France aimed at improving test methodology and designing automatic test equipment.
