World uranium consumption forecast (1988-2000)

The uranium consumption forecast in Nuexco`s 1988 Uranium Market Study and Price Forecast covering the years 1988-2000 shows a 0.6 percent increase over last year`s forecast. Over this period, uranium consumption is expected to total 1736 million pounds U{sub 3}O{sub 8} compared to last year`s forecast of 1726 million pounds. Nuexco`s incorporation of an optimization of enrichment tails assay in uranium consumption calculations this year, less small reductions in electric generating capacity and average plant capacity factors, account for this modest increase. The source report gives forecasts for various market conditions and possible growth rates. However, in this article only the free market reference growth case is discussed.
