The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Gas Research Institute (GRI) ``1993 Repowering with Gas Turbines Workshop`` took place in Danvers, Massachusetts October 7--8, 1993. The purpose of the workshop was to provide a setting for electric utility personnel and gas industry representatives to meet and discuss issues related to repowering including the potential to increase generating capacity, improve heat rates and reduce emissions at existing generating stations at a, relatively low cost. Subjects included life extension; repowering or retirement of existing generating equipment; the selection of units in the utility system to be repowered; optimum repowering configurations for specific units; and regulatory obstacles to repowering. The discussion session was chaired by three utility representatives and addressed considerations in selecting repowering: goals for capacity increase, efficiency increase, eimssions reduction. applicability of repowering options and obstacles/limits to repowering. Also included in the report is a listing of attendees (Appendix B) and the results from the post-workshop questionnaire (Appendix D). Individual reports have been entered into the data base separately.
