Code for internal dosimetry (CINDY Version 1.2). Part 1, Conceptual representation: Revision 1

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:10165487
The computer code CINDY (Code for Internal Dosimetry) has been developed by Pacific Northwest Laboratory to address the Department of Energy Order 5480.11 and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission`s Standards for Protection Against Radiation by providing the capabilities to calculate organ dose equivalents, effective dose equivalents, and committed effective dose equivalents using the approach in International Commission on Radiological Protection Publication 30. The code assists in the interpretation of bioassay data, the evaluation of committed and calendar-year doses from intake or bioassay measurement data, and the preparation of reports, consistent with revised DOE orders and NRC Regulatory Guides. The code is easy to use and is generally applicable to DOE sites and NRC licensees. Flexible biokinetics models are used to determine organ doses for annual, 50-year, calendar-year, or any other time-point necessary for chronic or acute intakes. This report is the first part of a three-part series documenting the CINDY computer code, and describes the general features and conceptual models implemented in the code. The user information is presented in part two which provides detailed information on use of the code. A third part will contain code-specific details and information of potential use to advanced users. Changes made to Part 1 in preparation of Revision 1 include correction of typographical errors plus description of the two uranium recycling models added as user options. Expansion of text has been made in a few sections, and additional tables of model parameter values have been included.
