Title: PVUSA, Photovoltaics for Utility Scale Applications: A national cooperative research project for directly harnessing the power of the sun to generate commercial quantities of electricity. First quarterly technical report, 1992

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:10163318

PVUSA`s Technical Review and Steering Committees made two US-2 vendor selections for Phase 2 of the project, adding to the four EMT-3 selections made in late 1991. The new selections include a 500 kW Siemens US-2 system be installed at Kerman (near Fresno), CA, and a 200 kW IPC US-2 system to be installed at Davis. Contract negotiations are underway with IPC. Contracts for three of the four 20 kW EMT-3 arrays, from SunPower, Amonix, and Solar Cells, are now in place. Negotiations are continuing with Solarex for the fourth EMT-3 array. All of the five arrays planned for the project`s Emerging Module Technology Segment-1 (EMT-1) Davis procurement are complete, along with one EMT host site array in operation on the island of Maui, Hawaii. The Davis Sovonics array has been out of service since June 1991 due to a source circuit junction box failure, but the array is scheduled to be back on line in June 1992. The ENTECH array was out of service for several weeks this quarter because of failures in the array`s tracking controller circuitry. The array is now functioning normally.
