The development of distribution transformers using amorphous metals for the core is an achievement that promises to greatly improve the efficiency of the distribution system. Distribution transformers contribute 60% of all losses on the distribution system with core losses bestowing 45% of the total distribution losses. This two volume report discusses the development of the transformers, and the results of the two-year field trial program. Volume I is non-proprietary, covering the results of the designs considered and the results of the field trial. Volume II is proprietary and is available for license.
