Improved technologies and policy planning have made it possible for many industrialized countries to meet the demand for energy services with fewer energy resources. Many developing countries would like to employ such policies but have difficulty finding information about them. Energy policy planners at all levels invest significant resources researching technological and policy options for improving energy efficiency. The International Institute for Energy Conservation`s (IIEC) Technical Information Directory addresses the problem of locating technical information. The directory profiles organizations that provide information on energy saving technologies and highlights useful materials and services they offer. The directory has two principle goals: to help individuals and institutions that do not have intimate knowledge of energy-saving technologies locate those that do, and to encourage the development of an international information sharing system to facilitate the sharing of information energy-saving technologies. The first edition primarily focuses on organizations that provide generic or non-product-specific information on energy-saving technologies. Many of the organizations profiled in these pages pursue additional activities that are beyond the scope of the directory. The Technical Information Directory evaluates only their ability to provide information on energy-saving technologies. All the information presented in the draft was drawn from materials produced by the organizations profiled or conversations with their staffs.
