Economic evaluation of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems. Volume 2, Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:10133903
The Electric Power Research Institute contracted with United Engineers & Constructors Inc. to update the FGD process costs originally presented in the 1982 EPRI study, ``Economic Evaluations of FGD Systems`` and to analyze the technical merit and commercial status of currently available and emerging SO{sub 2} control technologies. This second volume of the final report presents and compares the results for 13 additional wet throwaway, regenerable throwaway, sulfur recovery and dry FGD processes evaluated. Fifteen wet and dry FGD processes were evaluated in Volume 1. A material and energy balance, process flow sheet, major equipment listing, system description, and utility consumption list form the basis of each FGD evaluation. Each evaluation includes a capital cost estimate, a first-year operating cost analysis, and a levelized cost evaluation (constant and current dollars). All economics were developed according to the standard EPRI Economic Premises. Overall, the cost estimates have an absolute accuracy of {plus_minus}20%. However, since methodology, scope and unit size are consistent, the relative accuracy between process estimates is {plus_minus}10%.
