The main objectives to be accomplished during this operating period were to: prepare samples for agrochemical bio-activity tests, review KPX capital investment components, and continue industry liaison for KPX venture development. The production of the KPX stabilized refinery feed is complete. A new specification sheet has been sent to the local refiners for their inspection. The heteroatom content of this product meets the requirements of the local refineries. The olefin content has been reduced drastically and the feed is rich in paraffin and isoparaffins. Two key process components reviewed in this period are solvent extraction and product purification processes. Of the extraction unit it is concluded that almost all of the solvent can be recovered and recycled by utilizing two low efficiency distillation columns. The amount of impurities in the product streams were around 0.4 wt%. The cost for product purification was $2M, which is under 4% of the total capital investment. The authors are continuing to pursue the KPX venture development. During this period, they have conducted follow-up dialog among several potential partners. Contacts includes pyridine industry, petroleum companies for petroleum products, and mining industry for sourcing raw kerogen oil.
