The manual is made up of 5 sections: Part I, Introduction; Part II Process, which includes chapters on irradiated slugs and fission-product decay, feed preparation, process chemistry, process engineering, solvent-extractlon procedure, concentration of uranium and plutonium solutions, aqueous make-up, solvent treatment, and acid recovery and waste disposal; Part III, Plant and Equipment, which includes chapters on general description of plant, pulse columns, other process equipment, pumps, jets, and agitators, remote operation and maintenance, and construction materials and protective coatings; Part IV, Process Control, with chapters on instrumentation and sampling and analytical methods; and, Part V, Safety, including chapters on health protection from radiation, radiation intensities and shielding, decontamination of surfaces, hazards other than radiation, critical mass control.
