  1. Geospatial and Information Substitution and Anonymization Tool (GISA)

The Geospatial and Information and Substitution and Anonymization Tool (GISA) incorporates techniques for obfuscating identifiable information from a dataset, while simultaneously incorporating relevant variables, such as spatial data, to enable more insightful analysis. This approach promotes collaboration and data sharing by reducing the risk of exposure to sensitive information. The data that is acquired and exchanged between partners and DOE researchers sometimes contains sensitive information that cannot be disclosed to the public or other entities. The confidentiality of data often limits its usefulness for collaborative science and public welfare, especially when removing information that enables meaningful analysis. For instance, geolocationmore » can provide critical information about geological, atmospheric, or environmental features but can also unveil confidential details about a dataset. To overcome this challenge, the GISA tool enables NETL to remove or replace sensitive information such as location while retaining data attributes that facilitate outside stakeholders in carrying out a thorough analysis. The beta version of the GISA tool is available for your use-case purposes. If there are any feedback you would like to provide for the tool, please reach out with your feedback to edxsupport@netl.doe.gov. The goal of releasing the beta version of the tool is to refine the tool based on feedback received from the user community in future versions.
