Title: Kinetics of mechanism of the chlorination of methane in the presence of salt catalysts

Journal Article · · Kinet. Catal. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6949896

The kinetics of the direct chlorination of methane in the presence of various salt trigger systems was studied under gradientless conditions. The laws obtained are analyzed from the standpoint of a heterogeneous-homogeneous radical-chain mechanism of chlorination. For most of the salts studied, quadratic termination with respect to chlorine atoms is effected. Depending on the nature of the salt surface, either the step of dissociative adsorption of chlorine or the step of desorption of chlorine atoms may be the limiting step in chain initiation.
