Technical report for the period 1 October 1987 - 30 September 1989. Technical report
This report describes Seismic Studies. Section 1 is a preliminary report on high frequency waves recorded by several seismic stations in the U.S.S.R. This work is continuing on another contract. Section 2 covers results of several studies, including the development of an improved crustal and upper mantle model for the Baltic shield and western U.S.S.R using data from mining blasts recorded at NORESS; an analysis of the relative ability of 3-component and array stations to determine azimuth of seismic sources; a study of the design requirements of seismic networks for global monitoring using observations from the 1984 GSE Technical Test as the basis; and a study of the effect of source radiation patterns on the detectability of P, pP and sP. Section 3 contains four short summaries of work partly supported under this contract, but which have been or will be fully reported elsewhere. Section 4 describes software developed under this project which has been made available to other researchers through normal Center support functions.
