The 450-MeV electron storage ring SIBERIA-1 with 100-mA stored beam current was put into operation at the I. V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy in 1983. In 1984 a 3-pole superconducting wiggler was placed in the storage ring, which produced SR beams with a critical wavelength 21 A. Investigations of phosphor-crystal and high-temperature superconductor luminescence, VUV-spectrometry of wide-band dielectrics, photoelectron spectroscopy of HTSC, etc. are being carried out. A 2.5-GeV 100-mA electron storage ring, SIBERIA-2, is now under construction.
