The authors have calculated the equilibrium partial pressures of the gas phase components of the closed HgTe-NH/sub 4/Cl system in the 563-883/sup 0/K temperature range and pressures of 0.01 x 10/sup 5/ to 1 x 10/sup 5/ Pa produced by the products of NH/sub 4/Cl reacting with HgTe at the homogeneity-region boundaries of HgTe with Hg and Te. The authors have demonstrated that in this system the transfer of HgTe is due mostly to the sublimation of mercury telluride in the source region followed by its condensation in the crystallization region, limited by the low tellurium content of the gas phase.
