Title: Improvements in coal cleaning technology at the Dneprodzerzhinsk C and CW

Improvements in the coal preparation standards achieved at the Dneprodzerzhinsk C and CW have been greatly assisted by close creative collaboration with the specialized research organizations, such as UkrNIIugleobogashchenie and UKhIN; the former has maintained a support laboratory at the Works since 1960; new developments are implemented more speedily in the plant, and the standards of coal cleaning in the plant washeries Dnieper area C and CW have correspondingly risen. The production rate has been raised by reconstructing the flow-sheet and intensifying the performance of the equipment. Apart from the coal handling system, the chief bottleneck in washeries has always been the water-slurry system. Ways have been devised to modify the structure of the water-slurry system and intensify the performance of its main items of equipment (slurry screens, filtration units, flotation equipment, circulating-water purifiers). One notable outcome of creative collaboration between the plant and Institute staff has been the development of fluidized-bed coal drying. The equipment in use at the Dneprodzerzhinsk C and CW is superior to other similar equipment in capital and running costs. Another useful outcome of all the developments mentioned is the fact that, although the quality of incoming coals has steadily deteriorated, the washery has increased its throughput, maintained the necessary charge quality level and reached a load level 40% over nominal.The volume of washer water in circulation has been reduced and is currently running at 3 m/sup 3//ton. The total saving effected by introducing progressive technology and new equipment has exceeded 4 million rubles.
