Radiochemical processes in polymer films containing N,N,N{sup {prime}},N{sup {prime}}-tetra-methyl-4,4{sup {prime}}-diaminodiphenylmethane induced by accelerated electron pulses
- A.N. Frumkin Inst. of Electrochemistry, Moscow (Russian Federation)
The mechanism of radiochemical oxidation of N,N,N{prime},N{prime}-tetramethyl-4,4{prime}-diaminodiphenylmethane (TMDH) in solid solutions of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in the presence and absence of an electron acceptor, CBr{sub 4}, was investigated by pulsed radiolysis. The absorption spectra were recorded and the short-lived products of radiolysis of TMDH were identified. The radiochemical yields were determined and the rate constants of formation of a stable colored product of radiolysis, Michler`s Hydrol, were calculated. The rate constants for the PVC-TMDH-CBr{sub 4} and PMMA-TMDH-CBr{sub 4} systems were respectively equal to 240 {plus_minus} 25 and 20 {plus_minus} 3 sec{sup -1}. 15 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.
