Energy-efficient lighting saves energy, cost, and the environment. {open_quotes}Energy-smart{close_quotes} lighting goes further by enhancing human performance, business productivity, and satisfaction. Energy-smart lighting systems involve four strategies:(1) Substituting efficient compact fluorescent and metal halide sources for incandescent. (2) Maximizing the efficiency of luminaires that use those sources. (3) Developing more effective light distribution, principally for computer-oriented working spaces. (4) Integrating controls to reduce energy consumption, not just power density.
