Development of a high recovery SMAW consumable for high strength steels, Re > 690 N/mm2

This paper presents the development of a high recovery Zr-basic electrode, suitable for welding of extra high strength steels. In the first phase of the study the influence of alloying elements (Mn,Cr,Ni,Mo) on mechanical properties were investigated. In the final version of the electrode, Mn-Ni-Mo were used as alloying elements, test electrode nr 17. This electrode has been future tested to study the influence of heat input and welding positions on mechanical properties. Moisture pick up, hydrogen content, productivity and CTOD test results are also reported.
