HfC is Tungsten Carbide structured and crystallizes in the hexagonal P-6m2 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Hf4+ is bonded to six equivalent C4- atoms to form a mixture of distorted corner, edge, and face-sharing HfC6 pentagonal pyramids. All Hf–C bond lengths are 2.37 Å. C4- is bonded to six equivalent Hf4+ atoms to form a mixture of distorted corner, edge, and face-sharing CHf6 pentagonal pyramids.
