Title: Organic Polymer Magnets

Organic conjugated polymers are becoming attractive materials in opto-electronic applications (“plastic electronics”). Magnetism is another important property for such organic materials in the futuremore » generation of electronics. Recently, the first organic conjugated polymer with magnetic properties beyond simple paramagnetism was reported. Its very large magnetic moment, corresponding to an average spin quantum number S ? 5000, indicated an effective ferromagnetic (and/or ferrimagnetic) correlation of 10,000 electron spin; the magnetization at saturation was about 10 emu/g (vs. 220 emu/g for iron).
