Fuel consumption in reheat furnaces represents a significant percentage of the total processing cost. The competitiveness of the steel industry demands more efficient use of available fuel resources. Thus it has become more important to have enhanced furnace design tools. Here, numerical simulations of reactive turbulent flows and heat transfer in regenerative slab reheat furnaces have been carried out. A moment closure method with the assumed {beta} probability density function for the mixture fraction is used to model the turbulent nonpremixed combustion process in the furnaces.
