Highlights: • PM{sub 2.5} decreased following implementation of annual PM{sub 2.5} standard. • Cardiovascular mortality decreased with a decrease in PM{sub 2.5}. • Attainment counties had greater health benefit compared to nonattainment counties. • Associations were not statistically different. • Health benefits were shown even in counties below the current standard. Estimating air quality impacts and associated costs of achieving alternative national ambient air quality standards for particulate matter

This paper describes a nationwide analysis of the costs and air quality impacts of alternative NAAQS for particulate matter (PM). The analysis was undertaken in support of the required RIA.
