This paper introduces a new transmission control device, the Line Compensating Phase Angle Regulator (LCPAR), which permits simultaneous control of transmission voltage phase angle, apparent line reactance, and apparent line resistance. The device permits full utilization of the transmission line it serves with minimum loss. The paper describes a load flow model and provides an explicit comparison of the performance of the LCPAR with a more conventional phase angle regulating transformer, either with electromechanical switching or solid state switching. Basic mechanisms of generation and flow of harmonic signals in balanced and unbalanced three-phase power systems

In this paper, the basic mechanisms of generation and flow of harmonic signals in electric power networks are discussed. With regard to generation, the unbalanced operating condition of a six-pulse converter is studied. Guidelines which are applicable in the general case are obtained. With regard to flow of harmonic signals, a new relationship between distortion voltamperes (D) and total harmonic distortion (THD) is derived. This relationship is very similar to the P/{delta} and Q/vertical bar V vertical bar relations which are well known in electric power flow studies.

A Line Weighted Frequency Droop Controller for Decentralized Enforcement of Transmission Line Power Flow Constraints in Inverter-Based Networks

Recent works have shown that networks of voltagesource inverters implementing frequency droop control may be analyzed as consensus-like networks. Based on this understanding, we show that enforcement of network line power flows can be viewed as an edge-preservation problem in a -disk dynamic interaction graph. Inspired by other works solving similar problems in other domains, we propose a line weighted frequency droop controller such that a network of all active buses implementing this controller enforces the specified line power flow constraints without need for communication.
