Title: Fat jet signature of a heavy neutrino at a lepton collider

Abstract

We explore the discovery prospect of a very heavy neutrino at the proposed e⁺e^– collider for two different c.m. energies √s = 1.4 and 3 TeV. We consider production of a heavy neutrino via s- and t-channel processes and its subsequent prompt decays leading to semileptonic final states, along with significant missing momentum. For our choice of masses, the gauge boson produced from heavy neutrino decay is highly boosted, leading to a fat jet. We carry out a detailed signal and background analysis for e^± + j_fat + p (missing four-momentum) final state using both cut-based and multivariate techniques. We show that a heavy neutrino of mass 600–2700 GeV and active-sterile mixing |V_eN|² ~ 10^–5 can be probed with 5σ significance at an e⁺e^– collider after collecting L = 500 fb^–1 of data. We find that the sensitivity reach at an e+e– collider is an order of magnitude enhanced compared to the LHC.

Collider signatures for the heavy lepton triplet in the type I+III seesaw mechanism

The minimal SU(5) theory augmented by the fermionic adjoint representation restores the coupling constant unification and gives realistic neutrino masses and mixing through the hybrid Type I and Type III seesaw. The crucial prediction of the theory is an SU(2) lepton triplet with the mass below TeV. We study the signature of these heavy leptons at the hadron and lepton colliders. The smoking gun evidence of the theory, as in general seesaw mechanisms, is {Delta}L=2 lepton-number violation through events of a pair of like-sign leptons plus four jets without significant missing energy at hadron colliders. In this paper and the others in the series we present a generalized theory of weak leptonic and semileptonic decays which consistently incorporates the possibility of nonzero neutrino masses and associated lepton mixing. In the present work we give an analysis of the leptonic decays of charged pseudoscalar mesons within the generalized theory. The charged-lepton spectrum from such a decay is shown to consist not just of a single line, but instead a discrete set of lines. We state the precise meaning of neutrino-mass limits. A search for new particles has been conducted using events with two high transverse momentum (p_T) τ leptons that decay hadronically, at least two high-p_T jets, and missing transverse energy from the τ lepton decays. The analysis is performed using data from proton-proton collisions, collected by the CMS experiment in 2015 at √s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.1 fb^–1. The results are interpreted in two physics models. The first model involves heavy right-handed neutrinos, N_ℓ (ℓ = e, μ, τ), and right-handed charged bosons, WR, arising in a left-right symmetric extension of the standard model.more »« less

A supersymmetric theory of baryogenesis and sterile sneutrino dark matter from B mesons

Low-scale baryogenesis and dark matter generation can occur via the production of neutral B mesons at MeV temperatures in the early Universe, which undergo CP-violating oscillations and subsequently decay into a dark sector. In this work, we discuss the consequences of realizing this mechanism in a supersymmetric model with an unbroken U(1)_Rsymmetry which is identified with baryon number. B mesons decay into a dark sector through a baryon number conserving operator mediated by TeV scale squarks and a GeV scale Dirac bino.
