Observation of Λ$^{0}_{b}$ →ψ(2S)pK– and Λ$^{0}_{b}$ →J/ψπ + π–pK– decays and a measurement of the Λ$^{0}_{b}$ baryon mass

Title: Observation of Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$ →ψ(2S)pK– and Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$ →J/ψπ + π–pK– decays and a measurement of the Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$ baryon mass

Abstract

The decays Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$→ ψ(2S)pK–and Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$→ J/ψπ+π–pK–are observed in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb^–1, collected in proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energies by the LHCb detector. The ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed through the decay modes ψ(2S) → μ+μ–and ψ(2S) → J/ψπ+π–. The branching fractions relative to that of Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$→ J/ψpK–are measured to be $$\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→ψ(2S)pK^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→J/ψpK^{-})}$$ = (20.70 ± 0.76 ± 0.46 ± 0.37) x 10^-2,$$\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→Jψπ+π–pK^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→J/ψpK^{-})}$$ = (20.86 ± 0.96 ± 1.34) x 10^-2, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic and the third is related to the knowledge of J/ψ and ψ(2S) branching fractions. The mass of the Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$ baryon is measured to be M(Λ$$^{0}_{b}$$)= 5619.65 ± 0.17 ± 0.17 MeV/c², where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic.

  abstractNote = {The decays Λ$^{0}_{b}$→ ψ(2S)pK–and Λ$^{0}_{b}$→ J/ψπ+π–pK–are observed in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb–1, collected in proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energies by the LHCb detector. The ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed through the decay modes ψ(2S) → μ+μ–and ψ(2S) → J/ψπ+π–. The branching fractions relative to that of Λ$^{0}_{b}$→ J/ψpK–are measured to be $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→ψ(2S)pK^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→J/ψpK^{-})}$ = (20.70 ± 0.76 ± 0.46 ± 0.37) x 10-2,$\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→Jψπ+π–pK^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b}→J/ψpK^{-})}$ = (20.86 ± 0.96 ± 1.34) x 10-2, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic and the third is related to the knowledge of J/ψ and ψ(2S) branching fractions. The mass of the Λ$^{0}_{b}$ baryon is measured to be M(Λ$^{0}_{b}$)= 5619.65 ± 0.17 ± 0.17 MeV/c2, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic.},

Evidence for Exotic Hadron Contributions to $Λ_{b}^{0} \to J / ψ p π^{-}$ Decays

A full amplitude analysis of Λ⁰_b→J/ψpπ^– decays is performed with a data sample acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb^–1. A significantly better description of the data is achieved when, in addition to the previously observed nucleon excitations N→pπ^–, either the P_c(4380)⁺ and P_c(4450)⁺→J/ψp states, previously observed in Λ⁰_b→J/ψpK^– decays, or the Z_c(4200)^–→J/ψπ^– state, previously reported in B⁰→J/ψK⁺π^– decays, or all three, are included in the amplitude models. The data support a model containing all three exotic states, with a significance of more than three standard deviations.more »« less

Measurement of the branching ratio $Γ (Λ_{b}^{0} \to ψ (2 S) Λ^{0}) / Γ (Λ_{b}^{0} \to J / ψ Λ^{0})$ with the ATLAS detector

An observation of the Λ⁰_b → ψ(2S)Λ⁰ decay and a comparison of its branching fraction with that of the Λ⁰_b → J/ψΛ⁰ decay has been made with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeVat the LHC using an integrated luminosity of 20.6fb^–1. The J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed in their decays to a muon pair, while the Λ⁰ → pπ^– decay is exploited for the Λ⁰ baryon reconstruction. Furthermore, the Λ⁰_b baryons are reconstructed with transverse momentum p_T > 10 GeV and pseudorapidity |η| < 2.1.
