Additive manufacturing (AM), the layerby- layer creation of three-dimensional (3D) parts and components from digital models, is sparking a revolution in manufacturing and has been designated a research priority by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Below, we will describe and define AM and the unique role of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in this rapidly expanding research and development area.
