Title: Matching 3d N =2 vortices and monopole operators

Abstract

In earlier work with N. Seiberg, we explored connections between monopole operators, the Coulomb branch modulus, and vortices for 3d, N =2 supersymmetric, U(1)_k Chern-Simons matter theories. We here extend the monopole / vortex matching analysis, to theories with general matter electric charges. We verify, for general matter content, that the spin and other quantum numbers of the chiral monopole operators match those of corresponding BPS vortex states, at the top and bottom of the tower associated with quantizing the vortices’ Fermion zero modes. There are associated subtleties from non-normalizable Fermi zero modes, which contribute non-trivially to the BPS vortex spectrum and monopole operator matching; a proposed interpretation is further discussed here.

We study Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) non-Abelian semilocal vortices in U(N{sub C}) gauge theory with N{sub F} flavors, N{sub F}>N{sub C}, in the Higgs phase. The moduli space for an arbitrary winding number is described using the moduli matrix formalism. We find a relation between the moduli spaces of the semilocal vortices in Seiberg-like dual pairs of theories, U(N{sub C}) and U(N{sub F}-N{sub C}). They are two alternative regularizations of a parent non-Hausdorff space, which tend to the same moduli space of sigma model lumps in the infinite gauge coupling limits. BPS vortices in nonrelativistic M2-brane Chern-Simons-matter theory

We study BPS vortices in the mass-deformed nonrelativistic N=6 U(N){sub k}xU(N){sub -k} Chern-Simons-matter theory. We focus on the massive deformation that preserves the maximal N=6 supersymmetry and consider a nonrelativistic limit that carries 14 supercharges. In this nonrelativistic field theory we find Jackiw-Pi type exact vortex solutions combined with S{sup 3} fuzzy sphere geometry. We analyze their properties and show that they preserve one dynamical, one conformal, and five kinematical supersymmetries among the full super Schroedinger symmetry.

Zero modes of the non-relativistic self-dual Chern-Simons vortices on the Toda backgrounds

The two-dimensional self-dual equations are the governing equations of the static zero-energy vortex solutions for the non-relativistic, non-Abelian Chern-Simons models. The zero modes of the non-relativistic vortices are examined by index calculation for the self-dual equations. The index for the self-dual equations is zero for non-Abelian groups, but a non-zero index is obtained by the Toda Ansatz which reduces the self-dual equations to the Toda equations. The number of zero modes for the non-relativistic Toda vortices is 2 {Sigma}{sub {alpha},{beta}}{sup r}K{sub {alpha}{beta}}Q{sup {beta}} which is twice the total number of isolated zeros of the vortex functions. Dynamics of Chern-Simons vortices

We study vortex dynamics in three-dimensional theories with Chern-Simons interactions. The dynamics is governed by motion on the moduli space M in the presence of a magnetic field. For Abelian vortices, the magnetic field is shown to be the Ricci form over M; for non-Abelian vortices, it is the first Chern character of a suitable index bundle. We derive these results by integrating out massive fermions and following the fate of their zero modes.
