Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) in multilayer thin films promotes the development of spintronic and magnonic research fields. The origin of the PMA deserves a thorough investigation since it contains rich physics related to multiple factors in the heterostructure system. In this report, we study the origin of PMA in La_2/3Sr_1/3 Mn O₃ (LSMO) thin films sandwiched by La_1-xSr_xCoO_3-δ (LSCO) layers grown on SrTiO₃ substrate, using aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy. Our findings indicate that the lattice and electronic structures of LSMO can be modified through the inhomogeneous strains induced by nanodomains in LSCO layers. Growth and electrical transport properties of ${La}_{0.7} {Sr}_{0.3} {MnO}_{3}$ thin films on ${Sr}_{2} {IrO}_{4}$ single crystals

We report the physical properties of La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ thin films on Sr₂IrO₄ single crystals. The manganite films are deposited using oxide molecular beam epitaxy on flux-grown (001)-oriented iridate crystals. Temperature-dependent magnetotransport and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements reveal the presence of a ferromagnetic metallic ground state in the films, consistent with films grown on SrTiO₃ and La_0.3Sr_0.7Al_0.65Ta_0.35O₃. A parallel resistance model is used to separate conduction effects within the Sr₂IrO₄ substrate and the La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ thin films, revealing that the measured resistance maximum does not correspond to the manganite Curie temperature but results from a convolution of properties of the near-insulating substratemore »« less

Surface and interface properties of $L a_{2 / 3} S r_{1 / 3} Mn O_{3}$ thin films on ${SrTiO}_{3}$ (001)

Understanding and manipulating properties emerging at a surface or an interface require a thorough knowledge of structure-property relationships. We report a study of a prototype oxide system, La_2/3Sr_1/3MnO₃ grown on SrTiO₃(001), by combining in situ angle-resolved x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ex situ x-ray diffraction, and scanning transmission electron microscopy/spectroscopy with electric transport measurements. We find that La_2/3Sr_1/3MnO₃ films thicker than 20 unit cells (u.c.) exhibit a universal behavior with no more than one u.c. intermixing at the interface but at least 3 u.c. of Sr segregation near the surface, which is (La/Sr)O terminated.
