Title: Threshold and Jet Radius Joint Resummation for Single-Inclusive Jet Production

Abstract

Here, we present the first threshold and jet radius jointly resummed cross section for single-inclusive hadronic jet production. We work at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy and our framework allows for a systematic extension beyond the currently achieved precision. Long-standing numerical issues are overcome by performing the resummation directly in momentum space within soft collinear effective theory. We present the first numerical results for the LHC and observe an improved description of the available data. Our results are of immediate relevance for LHC precision phenomenology including the extraction of parton distribution functions and the QCD strong coupling constant.

The past several years have witnessed important developments in the QCD theory of jet production and jet substructure in hadronic collisions. In the framework of soft-collinear effective theory, semi-inclusive jet functions and semi-inclusive fragmenting jet functions have allowed us to combine higher order calculations with resummation of potentially large logarithms of the jet radius, ln R. Very recently, the semi-inclusive jet functions for partons fragmenting into heavy flavor jets were computed by Dai, Kim and Leibovich. The groomed and ungroomed jet mass distribution for inclusive jet production at the LHC

We study jet mass distributions measured in the single inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions pp → jet+X at the LHC. We consider both standard ungroomed jets as well as soft drop groomed jets. Within the Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET), we establish QCD factorization theorems for both cases and we study their relation. The developed framework allows for the joint resummation of several classes of logarithmic corrections to all orders in the strong coupling constant. Threshold resummation effects in direct top quark production at hadron colliders

We investigate the threshold-enhanced QCD corrections to the cross sections for direct top quark productions induced by model-independent flavor changing neutral current couplings at hadron colliders. We use the soft-collinear effective theory to describe the incoming massless partons and use the heavy quark effective theory to treat the top quark. Then we construct the flavor changing operator based on the above effective theories, and resum the large logarithms near threshold arising from soft gluon emission. Our results show that the resummed QCD corrections further enhance the next-to-leading order cross sections significantly. Many present lattice QCD approaches to calculate the parton distribution functions (PDFs) rely on a factorization formula or effective theory expansion of certain Euclidean matrix elements in boosted hadron states. In the quasi- and pseudo-PDF methods, the matching coefficient in the factorization or expansion formula includes large logarithms near the threshold, which arise from the subtle interplay of collinear and soft divergences of an underlying 3D momentum distribution. We use the standard prescription to resum such logarithms in the Mellin-moment space at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, which also accounts for the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi evolution, and we show that it can suppress themore »« less

We compute the resummed on-shell W+W- production cross section under a jet veto at the LHC to partial N3LL order matched to the fixed-order NNLO result. Differential NNLO cross sections are obtained from an implementation of qT subtraction in Sherpa. The two-loop virtual corrections to the qq¯→W+W- amplitude, used in both fixed-order and resummation predictions, are extracted from the public code qqvvamp. We perform resummation using soft collinear effective theory, with approximate beam functions where only the logarithmic terms are included at two-loop.
